The Kakheti wine route by car

Kakheti is two hours from Tbilisi, and the wine route deserves two days. Trying to do it in one turns a good trip into a rushed one.
Day one: Sighnaghi
Tbilisi to Sighnaghi is 110 km on good asphalt. The town is small enough to cover on foot, and Bodbe Monastery is two kilometres further on.
Day two: Telavi and the cellars
The Tsinandali estate, then family-run marani cellars scattered across the Alazani valley. Most take walk-ins, but the good ones prefer a call ahead.
One important thing
The legal blood alcohol limit for drivers in Georgia is zero. If tasting is the point of the trip, nominate a driver or stay overnight - the police do check on this road.
